This really isn’t the nostalgia page at all. The nostalgia page is in the above margin above the header but I just thought I’d introduce it here.

As a result of the feedback and comments I received about the “Older than dirt” post I thought I’d reserve a special page just for nostalgia.

Since this blog is really from a baby boomer for the benefit of other baby boomers, we should see some amusing and maybe “lump in throat” memories emerge.

The whole idea is to just go to the nostalgia page above and write about a nostalgic memory. Preferably your post should be about things that no longer exist such as the way things were done “back in the olden days when WE were kids”

However you don’t have to be a baby boomer to post on the nostalgia page.

Any interesting stories you might have about the past are welcome. Maybe you heard something from your parents or grandparents which will be fine.

I’ll start it off with a few and hopefully others will add to it as time goes by.

Just click on the nostalgia page at the top of this page or click here to start.

There’s a term that’s been floating around internet marketing circles now for some years and is still worth a mention here, if for no other reason than to remind myself of its meaning and complications.

The term is “Information Overload” and can be an extremely serious drawback to budding internet marketers. As a baby boomer I first developed an interest in internet marketing for baby boomers a couple of years ago, but I was restricted to a dial up connection due to living within a region of Australia which had no other form of connection available at that time.

Learn How to Think and Grow Rich. Click Here For Your Free Copy Now.

These days I’m still restricted to a satellite connection which is just so much better than dial up and allows me to get serious about internet marketing for baby boomers but information overload has very nearly put an end to a baby boomer’s journey toward internet marketing on numerous occasions.

The problem I found in my search for information was that I found too much.
It’s no secret that there are millions of internet marketers out there and they are all trying to market something on the net. Hence the term: “Internet Marketer”.

This is where the problem of “Information Overload” raises its alluring head. For me, it seems that when carrying out research into finding the best learning product, each product “appears” to be better than the last one because it seems so much easier and simpler to understand.

No one likes to work and because most baby boomers are approaching the time socially considered to be the end of their working lives as such, they are probably more adverse to work than proceeding generations. This makes them an ideal target for information overload simply because they are looking for an easier way to achieve success as an internet marketer.

It took me quite some time to realize the folly behind chasing the easy way, not to mention the amount of money I invested and for the most part lost.
Every teacher, coach and guru will tell you that you should stick to one method until you master it but they will also tell you that their product is the one you should be sticking to regardless of how far you’ve progressed with the one you are currently doing, and so encourage you to change horses in mid stride so to speak.

This is where information overload becomes an anchor in that rather than having the fortitude to indeed stick to one method, we tend to learn a little bit here and a little bit there and a little bit elsewhere but without the having the final step which binds them all together, they are an incomplete study because they are all snippets of information that without following the complete course are time consuming and worthless.

Baby Boomer Internet Marketers of course are not the only ones guilty of this behavior which should be avoided by all, but let’s face it, baby boomers don’t have the time left that following generations have to learn something new and so more than anyone should not be tempted by good sales copy and avoid Information Overload at all cost.

Someone sent this to me today in an email.

Considering the topic of my blog I thought I’d include it here as part of a post for those old enough to remember:

“Someone asked the other day, ‘What was your favorite ‘fast food’ when you were growing up?’
‘We didn’t have fast food when I was growing up,’ I informed him.
‘All the food was slow.’

‘C’mon, seriously. Where did you eat?’
‘It was a place called ‘home,” I explained !

‘Mum cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn’t like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.’

By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn’t tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I’d figured his system could have handled it:

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, wore Levis, set foot on a golf course, traveled out of the country or had a credit card.

My parents never drove me to school. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow).

We didn’t have a television in our house until I was 10.
It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at 10 pm, after playing the national anthem and epilogue; it came back on the air at about 6 p.m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people…

I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn’t know weren’t already using the line.

Pizzas were not delivered to our home… But milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers –My brother delivered a newspaper, seven days a week. He had to get up at 6AM every morning.

Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive.

If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren. Just don’t blame me if they bust a gut laughing.
Growing up isn’t what it used to be, is it?

MEMORIES from a friend:
My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother’s house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it… I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to ‘sprinkle’ clothes with because we didn’t have steam irons. Man, I am old.

How many do you remember?
Head lights dimmer switches on the floor of the car.
Ignition switches on the dashboard.
Trouser leg clips for bicycles without chain guards.
Soldering irons you heated on a gas burner.
Using hand signals for cars without turn indicators.

Older Than Dirt Quiz:
Count all the ones that you remember, not the ones you were told about.
Ratings at the bottom.

1. Sweet cigarettes
2. Coffee shops with juke boxes
3. Home milk delivery in glass bottles
4. Party lines on the telephone
5. Newsreels before the movie
6. TV test patterns that came on at night after the last show and were there until TV shows started again in the morning. (There were only 2 channels [if you were fortunate])
7. Peashooters
8. 33 rpm records
9. 45 RPM records
10. Hi-fi’s
11. Metal ice trays with lever
12. Blue flashbulb
13. Cork popguns
14. Wash tub wringers

If you remembered 0-3 = You’re still young
If you remembered 3-6 = You are getting older
If you remembered 7-10 = Don’t tell your age,
If you remembered 11-14 =You’re older than dirt!

I must be ‘older than dirt’ but those memories are some of the best parts of my life.

Don’t forget to pass this along!!
Especially to all your really OLD friends….I just did!!!!!!!!!

(I used a large type face so you could read it easily)”
